A limpia, also known as "limpia espiritual" or "spiritual cleansing", is a traditional healing practice that is widely used in Latin American cultures. It involves the use of various techniques to remove negative energy, emotional blockages, dis-ease, and other spiritual impurities from a person's energy field. Each limpia is customized with the allies known to best support the purpose and intention of the cleansing.

 

Limpias can involve a variety of allies such as an egg moved around the body to absorb ailments and blockages from the body and spirit, smoke from copal or other resins meant to bind to negative ions and remove the negative energies, and many plantitas (herbs and flowers) in a bundle used like a broom to ward off the unwanted energies. All allies used should be returned to the earth to be alchemized after ceremony.

 

A combination of the elements: earth (the plantitas), air (the wind created in the wiping away), water (in the egg and in a nearby glass that collects lingering energies), and fire (that which burns the resin).
